This week we have the possibility to make you know latvian player Diana Marcinkevica, who, despite her still young age, is traveling around the world from many years to play tennis and that can help us to understand much more about “tennis players life-style“.
Diana was born in Riga on 08/03/1992, began to play tennis at 7 years and gained her first ranking point in 2008 at Volos (Greece) when she was just 16. She won her first pro tennis tournament during 2009 in Tallin and from that moment she improved constantly her Wta ranking until 196th position in August 2014 which is her curgent best ranking. Years 2013/2014 are her best seasons with two remarkable triumphs in 25k ITF tournaments and with the access to the main draw of Stuttgart Wta Premier event. She plays in Federation Cup for Latvia from 2010 and today with Elena Ostapenko is a very difficult team to beat for any other nation.
But now the interview…
Hi Diana, how many years are you wandering the world to play tennis tournaments ?
I started to discover a world around 15 years ago. For me it’s very interesting to see a new places.
Usually are you able to enjoy and visit the attractions of places where you play tournaments ?
Of course I don’t always have time to visit the attractions when I’m playing in tournaments. But if it’s something very famous, I will try my best to see it.
What is the most beautiful place did you discover playing tennis?
I’ve visited many wonderful places, my favourite would be Lenzerheide in Switzerland. The nature is just amazing there with the mountains and the lakes. The views are truly beautiful.
Is there some city or place that you would suggest us absolutely to visit of your country?
In my country is nice to visit the capital Riga. In the city center and especially the old town you can find some amazing monuments. It’s perfect for sight-seeing. There are many houses in the Art Nouveau style.
To travel is very expensive for a tennis player too. Do you use any particular trick to save money in booking flights and hotels?
I don’t have any tricks to save money. Other than travelling a lot by car and keeping an eye on my budget by limiting my expenses.
What are your next tournaments planned and your professional goals for 2017?
I’m planning to start the season at the end of January with a couple of tournaments in France and then I will go to play Fed Cup in Tallinn. My first goal for 2017 is to break back into the Top200.
Wow Diana! Good luck for next tournaments and thank you for your kindness.
Thanks to you Gianluca.
Diana told us how many beautiful places she discovered thanks to tennis. Her favourite place is not the usual Paris, or London or New York or Rome but a little village, surrounded by mountains, in the canton of Graübunden in Switzerland: Lenzerheide.
See you soon guys!!!
